Nacho Momma
Meet Nacho Momma, a dog whose story is nothing short of extraordinary — a testament to courage, motherhood, and the unbreakable bond between humans and animals when trust is earned in the darkest moments.
Our journey with Nacho Momma began with a call from a deputy in a county with no animal shelter. He was asking about a pig, but before we hung up, he hesitantly asked if we could ever help with cats and dogs. I told him the truth — he could always ask, and if we had capacity, we would say yes. Two days later, my phone rang again.
This time, it was about a group of severely emaciated dogs. I told him I could only take one. When I met him to pick her up, I was face-to-face with one of the most emaciated dogs I had ever seen. Almost immediately, I knew — she had puppies somewhere. I fed her, gave her water, laced up my running shoes, and followed her back toward where she had come from… over an hour away.
What followed was a rescue I will never forget. We crossed barbed wire, moved through a field of donkeys, and at one point I became stuck in a bog. I lost sight of her — and then I heard growling. I followed the sound to a dilapidated shack deep in the woods. The growling wasn’t coming from Nacho Momma — it was another dog. Still no puppies. Then, suddenly, I heard it — the tiniest cry.
It took nearly three hours to pull everyone out from beneath that house. I army-crawled again and again, and every single time, one dog crawled right alongside me. That dog turned out to be Burrito — now known as our paralyzed pup. We finally finished close to midnight. I left that night with Nacho Momma, her five puppies, and Burrito — all lives that would have been lost without intervention.
Today, Nacho Momma is my absolute best friend and the best farm dog ever. She follows me through every chore, every step, every day — loyal, joyful, and endlessly grateful. Her five puppies were placed through our incredible partnership with Woof Woof Fosters, and together, we didn’t stop there. Woof Woof Fosters returned to that same property and rescued 20 additional dogs who had been dumped and left behind.
Now, Nacho Momma is looking for a sponsor who believes in resilience, bravery, and the kind of love that forms in impossible circumstances. Sponsoring Nacho Momma helps support her ongoing care, food, veterinary needs, and the life she earned through sheer determination and heart.
By sponsoring Nacho Momma, you become part of a rescue story that saved not just one dog — but an entire family, and many more who came after. She is a reminder that sometimes saying “yes” to one life opens the door to saving dozens more.
