Jelly Bean
Meet Jelly Bean, a tiny wire-haired terrier mix whose life is a testament to survival, grief, and the slow, beautiful process of learning to feel safe. Jelly Bean didn’t come to us because she trusted humans — she came to us because someone refused to give up on her.
Amy first saw Jelly Bean during a rescue mission to save a dog named Sunday, who had been hit by a car and left to die beneath a trailer. Jelly Bean watched from a distance as Sunday was pulled out and rushed to the emergency vet. Tragically, Sunday didn’t survive — but in his honor, Amy made a promise that the frightened little dog who had witnessed it all would not be left behind.
Just days later, Jelly Bean was trapped — terrified, shut down, and unwilling to come near any humans. She wouldn’t eat. She wouldn’t drink. And it quickly became clear that her situation was even more urgent than we realized. Jelly Bean was pregnant, likely by a much larger dog, and giving birth would almost certainly have cost her her life. The decision to abort the puppies was heartbreaking, but it saved Jelly Bean — giving her a future she otherwise wouldn’t have had.
In the weeks following her surgery, Jelly Bean remained withdrawn and fearful, unsure if the world could ever be safe. Then everything changed. One early summer day, Prince — a handsome gray and white cat — emerged from the woods at the farm and chose us. And almost instantly, he chose Jelly Bean. Their bond was immediate and undeniable. Prince became her protector, her teacher, and her proof that trust was possible. Through him, Jelly Bean learned that humans could be kind.
Today, Jelly Bean is still healing, but she is no longer alone. She trusts Amy and Jason enough to let them touch her, and while the rest of the world still feels overwhelming, she makes progress every single day. She adores the dogs and cats she lives with, finds comfort in routine, and her favorite place in the entire world is sleeping curled up right between Jason’s legs at night — safe, warm, and exactly where she belongs.
Now, Jelly Bean is looking for a sponsor who understands that some rescues don’t heal loudly — they heal quietly, patiently, and with unwavering love. Sponsoring Jelly Bean helps provide her medical care, food, enrichment, and the continued stability she needs to keep moving forward.
By sponsoring Jelly Bean, you honor Sunday’s memory, Prince’s unexpected heroism, and the resilience of a tiny dog who survived what should have broken her. Join us in supporting Jelly Bean — a reminder that even the most frightened souls can learn to trust again when love shows up and stays.
