Meet Charlie — also known as Charles in Charge, THE BIG MAN, and Amy’s self-appointed personal bodyguard. Charlie came to us in January of 2025 as an owner surrender after his health declined dramatically from living outside in a small cage through the cold. By the time he arrived, his body told the story — severe skin issues, breathing problems, and deep lethargy from a life that had been far too hard for far too long.

And yet… from the moment Charlie stepped inside, he knew he was home.

He instantly fit in with the pack and reminded Amy so much of Diego that his place as a permanent resident was never up for debate. Charlie didn’t just join the family — he assigned himself a job. He became Amy’s personal bodyguard. He wouldn’t hurt a soul, but he follows her everywhere. If she dares to step outside without him, Charlie stations himself at the window, pacing until she safely returns. Protection is serious business when you’re THE BIG MAN.

Today, Charlie’s favorite activity is lounging proudly on the couch, soaking in the life he waited so long to have. Sometimes he looks up at you with those eyes that seem to say, “Thank you for making me an inside dog.” Charlie does have thyroid issues, which are carefully managed with medication, and as a distinguished older gentleman, he can get a bit stiff — so he’s on joint supplements to keep him comfortable. Thanks to consistent care, Charlie is now full of energy, breathing well, moving soundly, and absolutely loving life.

He adores car rides, takes his supervisory duties very seriously, and has a special fondness for sleeping in the bed when Mr. Jason isn’t home — a privilege he enjoys thoroughly and unapologetically.
