Burrito

Meet Burrito, a dog whose life was saved the very night he helped save others. Burrito’s story is forever intertwined with Nacho Momma’s — found on the same  exhausting night deep in the woods, beneath a broken-down house that hid fear, suffering, and hope all at once.

As I army-crawled under that house again and again to rescue Nacho Momma’s puppies, one dog crawled with me every single time. Five trips in and out — side by side. It wasn’t until I finally came out and looked at him closely that I realized the truth: Burrito was paralyzed. I knew in that moment I couldn’t leave him behind.

I was scared — not knowing how much pain he was in, unsure if he might bite — so I wrapped him tightly in a dog bed to keep us both safe. He looked just like a burrito, and the name stuck. At the time, I truly believed I was only taking him to help him cross peacefully. It felt like the only kind thing left to do.

But Burrito wasn’t done.

The next day, as I carefully removed hundreds of ticks from his body and evaluated his condition, something incredible happened — his tail wagged. In that small movement, I knew there was hope. An MRI and CT scan confirmed that Burrito hadn’t been injured by trauma, but by a virus that attacked his spine. With medication, rehabilitation, and time, there was a chance — a real chance — that he could walk again.

Burrito learned to fly in his wheels and showed the world what joy looks like on two wheels. And then, six months later, the miracle we dared to dream of began to happen. Burrito started using his legs. It’s wobbly. It’s inconsistent. But it’s real. Watching him stand, step, and move on his own is something that still takes our breath away.

Now, Burrito is thriving — full of life, determination, and gratitude. He reminds us every day that hope can show up in the most unexpected places, and that sometimes the dogs we think we’re rescuing are actually rescuing us right back.

Burrito is now looking for a sponsor who believes in miracles, perseverance, and never giving up when there’s even the smallest spark of hope. Sponsoring Burrito helps support his ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, mobility equipment, and the continued progress that has already defied the odds.

By sponsoring Burrito, you become part of a story that began under a house in the woods and turned into a living, breathing miracle. Burrito is proof that compassion changes outcomes — and that sometimes, a tail wag is all it takes to change everything.
